NEFFY® Adrenaline Nasal Spray Now Available in Australia

A new option for the emergency treatment of anaphylaxis

There is an exciting development in the management of anaphylaxis in Australia, with NEFFY® adrenaline nasal spray now registered for use in Australia.

NEFFY contains adrenaline (epinephrine) and provides a needle-free method of administering adrenaline during an anaphylactic emergency.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has registered both 1 mg and 2 mg NEFFY nasal spray products on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).

Unlike traditional adrenaline auto-injectors, NEFFY is administered into the nose, providing an alternative for people who may have difficulty with injections or have a fear of needles.

Why is this important?

Anaphylaxis is a medical emergency and requires immediate treatment with adrenaline.

The availability of a nasal delivery option may provide another way for adrenaline to be administered in an emergency and may help reduce some barriers associated with injectable adrenaline.

NEFFY is now classified as a Schedule 3 Pharmacist Only medicine in Australia, with the relevant scheduling change taking effect from 1 February 2026.

What does this mean for First Aid?

The introduction of NEFFY is an important development, but it does not change the importance of recognising anaphylaxis and responding quickly.

First Aid training remains an important part of preparing individuals, workplaces, schools and community organisations to recognise the signs of anaphylaxis and respond appropriately in an emergency.

Always follow the individual’s anaphylaxis management plan and the instructions provided with their prescribed medication.

If you suspect someone is experiencing anaphylaxis, seek emergency medical assistance immediately and follow their emergency action plan.
